Dear Parents, Boys and Girls
Kyalami Prep is a wonderful place to be and there is never a week that goes by that I do not have many reminders of this. Last week was a particularly busy time, however the week ended in true K.P.S wonder. I sat at Dainfern College watching our newly promoted swimming team apply their talents in the infamous 'A' league. We finished an astonishing 5th! This amazing feat epitomises K.P.S as a whole and is a result of our team effort; the dedicated and energetic teachers, the ever-supporting parents and lastly our determined and 'gutsy' pupils. The reason I single out this awesome effort over the many others our children and staff realise on a daily basis is this - one strives to create a spirit and ethos that becomes an intrinsic part of the school and that perception is reality. The Heads of Schools that I was sitting with all noticed our staff, parents and children and I was asked, "How do we get it right?" I cannot think of a better question that a Headmaster can be asked...thank you all.
I must also thank and congratulate our PTF for organising another fun "Senior Disco" on Friday night as well as introducing many of our families to a great mountain bike ride event on Saturday. I leave on Wednesday night for Harvard and thereafter continue with my sabbatical. I know the school will be in good hands under the management of the deputies, Mrs Lilley and Mrs Cooper. Salani kahle.
CAMI MATHS I am sure that at some point, your child/ren have mentioned that we work on the Cami System at K.P.S. Each class has a time tabled slot weekly where their teachers can bring them to the Edutec Centre to work on the Maths, English or Afrikaans system. Each child has his/her own login code and can work at their own pace through the tasks while consolidating as they go. The children thoroughly enjoy their time working through various tasks in Cami. The Maths system works through different concepts.
It is amazing to see how certain children battle to formulate their thoughts on paper, but on Cami, they feel supported and cope much better. This builds both confidence and an improved self belief. Cami is available to parents should they wish to purchase it for home use. I encourage you to investigate this option should you be interested, but please do not feel obligated to do so. The contact number for Cami is 011 476 2020.

HOT OFF THE PRESS... Due to the uneven fading of the school sweatshirt and many other complaints about its 'tight neckline' etc, the Family of Schools has decided to phase out the sweatshirt during the course of the year and replace it with a V-neck jersey. This jersey will soon be available at our uniform shop as well as at McCullough and Bothwell.
Mrs L. van Dellen ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES Earth Hour 2010 Earth Hour is here again. Let us make an effort to switch off our lights on Saturday 27 March 2010 at 8.30pm. Last year many Kyalami Prep families dug out their torches and made an effort to support the Earth Hour initiative. If you would like to find out more information please consult the website on: www.earthhour.org

WORLD CUP As part of our involvement in the World Cup this year we would like to collect flags from different countries to put up in the foyer. Please send any flags that you have to your child's class teacher by the end of this term if possible. It is important that your flag is clearly marked so that it is returned to the correct family.

EASTER EGG DONATIONS A big thank you to those families that have donated marshmallow Easter eggs for the children of Sefikeng. The ROC committee have been very busy collecting and counting the eggs. Thank you boys and girls! We have received approximately 700 eggs so far. Mrs Ortlieb, Mrs du Plessis and the ROC (Reach Out to Charity) members will be visiting Sefikeng on the 25th March to deliver the eggs.

CHAIN OF VALUES Consideration and Compliments
"I got two A's", the small boy cried. His voice was filled with glee. His father very bluntly asked, "Why didn't you get three?" "Mom, I've got the dishes done!' The girl called from the door. Her mother very calmly said. "And did you sweep the floor?" "I've mowed the grass," the tall boy said, "And put the mower away!" His father asked him, with a shrug, "Did you clean off the clay?" The children in the house next door Seem happy and content. The same things happened over there, But this is how it went: "I got two A's" the small boy cried. His voice was filled with glee. His father very proudly said "That's great! I am glad you live with me." "Mom, I've got the dishes done!" The girl called from the door. Her mother smiled and softly said, "Each day I love you more." "I've mowed the grass," the tall boy said, "And put the mower away!" His father answered with much joy, "You've made me happy today."
Children deserve a little praise for the tasks they are asked to do. If they're to lead a happy life, SO MUCH DEPENDS ON YOU!

GOLDEN MOMENT Mr van Lelyveld was sitting next to the field watching the open cricket team start their match. Rufaro saw him sitting there and came to have a chat to his PE teacher and after a few minutes ran off to play. A while later Mr White came and sat with Mr van Lelyveld and started chatting and along came Rufaro again. He sat next to Mr van Lelyveld and looked at Mr White very curiously. After looking at him a while he asked Mr van Lelyveld, "So who's your friend?"
We'd like to wish our Christian families a reflective and peaceful Easter and our Jewish families a meaningful and Kosher Pesach.
On a future note... Please be advised that Monday 26th April, preceding the public holiday on Tuesday 27th April is not a school holiday.
Warm regards Victor White Headmaster
