Dear Parents, Boys and Girls
A warm welcome to you all, with a very special welcome going to our new families who serve to represent 60 new childrem from Grade 0 through to Grade 7. We look forward to a very busy and productive 2010. We have a full sporting, cultural and academic calendar which will place demands on us all and I thank the Kyalami community in advance for their support and commitment in making our school the wonderful, vibrant place that it is.
STAFF NEWS It gives me great pleasure to welcome Mrs Jackie Sargent (Art) and Caroline Fredericks (Gr 2) to the KPS staff.
Special congratulations to the Bailey family on the birth of their baby boy, Luke, on 26 December.

FAMILY/PARENT/LEARNER FORM The family/parent/learner form needs to be completed each year so that the database may be updated with important medical details, emergency contacts etc. This will enable us, in an emergency, to respond efficiently and promptly.
These forms have been sent home. Please complete and return to the class teacher as soon as possible.
MAINTENANCE This has been one of the busiest Christmas holidays as far as maintenance and upgrading of the school facilities has been concerned. Apart from the usual holiday work of cleaning, gardening and maintenance being done, the following has also been done: damp-proofing and repainting of the entire admin block, resurfacing of our two
older tennis/netball courts, artificial grass being laid in the Grade 0 block and the closing in at the back of the Science lab to allow for plants to be grown and certain animals to be kept. A big thank you must go to Mr. Calvarey, our Estate Manager, who worked throughout the holidays and beyond the call of duty in overseeing all this work.

EXTRAMURALS Attached to this newsletter, please find a copy of the extramural programme and the extra cost programme. The extramural programme will commence on Monday 18 January and run until Friday 12 March.
Cricket fixtures As parents, you may notice on the school calendar that no schools or venues have been included with the weekly cricket fixtures. Unfortunately, a few errors were picked up in the fifth draft received last year and as of yet, we have not received the final draft from Far North Cricket, who organise the fixtures. As soon as the final draft is received, this information will be made available to the boys and parents.
Top Field With the top field now being available for extra-murals, please note that all softball practices and matches, as well as a few cricket practices have been scheduled for the top field. This information is on the extramural programme. Just as with swimming, pupils who have practices, matches or galas at the top field or swimming pool have to meet their coaches in the tuck-shop quad five minutes before the scheduled starting time, so that they can walk up together. Please note that these pupils will also return to school with their coaches, and can be fetched from the tuck-shop quad. Under no circumstances will children be allowed to walk up to the top field or pool on their own.

CHAIN OF VALUES We have an innovative programme lined up for our core values this year. Term 1 sees us beginning with confidence followed by team work in the second term and peace in term 3. These values are incorporated into everyday life at K.P.S and we certainly hope that everyone will benefit from this focus as we are frequently surrounded by moral degeneration in society. We look forward to a fun-filled and values-driven year!

To all the Kyalami Prep families, may 2010 be a year that provides happiness, success and fulfilment.
Warm regards
